You hear the word “Mindfulness” all the time, but what exactly does it mean and how can it help you?
Thich Nhat Hanh said that mindfulness “is what brings us back in touch with what’s happening in the present moment in our body, in our feelings, in our thinking, and also in our environment.”
Mindfulness allows us to live in the present moment, fully aware of what is going on in our bodies, our minds, and the physical space in which we presently exist.
We spend the majority of our days rushing from one thing to another, crossing item after item off our to-do list, barely stopping to breathe or take a minute to really think about what we are doing or how we are feeling.
When we practice mindfulness in our daily lives, it allows us to really feel the moment and get in touch with who we are.
Connecting with your heart and soul on a deep level can be the first step in changing your life into something that is meaningful, not only to you but to everyone you come in contact with. Personal mindfulness creates a ripple effect that leads to global mindfulness, but it all starts with you.
You have the power to not only change yourself, but the world as well. But, to be that change, you have to take the first step.
When was the last time you took time for yourself? To sit and be mindful in that moment? To feel every breath in your body? To smell the scent in the air and listen to the sounds of nature?
We all need to take some time away from our daily grind, to spend time getting reacquainted with our deepest self, the self that is hidden in our daily lives under all the different hats we wear.
