A Healthy Mindset for the New Year

If you’re an over-thinker, procrastinator, or perfectionist, this post is for you!

The more I’ve dug into mindset work, the more I’ve noticed certain patterns that hold us back when we’re trying to make changes in our lives. When we have unhealthy thoughts, we tend to succumb to insecurity, uncertainty, overwhelm, and worry.

A healthy mindset involves finding ways to grow from your thoughts instead of letting them control your life. Rather than dwelling on a negative thought until it becomes overwhelming, the healthy mindset tries to a) move beyond that thought or b) simply accept it.

Here are five C’s of elements of a healthy mindset:

1. Calmness: Feeling calm comes when you bring awareness to what’s happening around you and what you’re thinking about it. By figuring out go-to strategies and practices that calm your mind, you can center yourself and recognize when you’re overthinking or worrying about insignificant details.

2- Clarity: When you get clear on your priorities, goals, and values, you can remove the overwhelm that comes from uncertainty. Until you do this, you can be easily swayed or distracted by what comes up next instead of what drives you at your core. Goal-setting exercises or journaling to find what matters most to you can help.

3- Compassion: When you’re constantly comparing yourself to others, pressuring yourself to be perfect, and doubting your own abilities, you only sabotage your success. Compassion allows you to accept yourself, set healthy expectations, and trust yourself and the journey you’re on. It’s important to show yourself compassion first so that you can give it to others too.

4- Concentration: Concentration is about commitment and dedication to yourself. We live in an age of distractions, and when you focus on what other people are doing instead of your own path, you get stuck. Devote yourself to focusing on your end goals rather than comparing yourself to other people and what they’ve been able to accomplish.

5- Courage: Courage helps us take action. This level of bravery might sound like it’s about taking big, scary leaps into the unknown, but sometimes it is doing something as small as tackling a simple task you’ve been putting off. Think about those things you don’t really want to do, and that will give you opportunities to show courage.

With these five C’s in mind, I have created a list of 10 questions to help you reflect on this past year. You can use these questions for personal reflection. I like to write down my answers, so I can look back at them:

1- What went well this year?

2- What changes did I make this year?

3- What do I choose to do the same next year?

4- What do I choose to do differently?

5-What gave me energy this year?

6-What was draining my energy?

7-What did I say ”yes” to that I wish I had said ”no” to?

8- What did I say ”no” to that I wish I had said ”yes” to?

9- What helped me stay balanced and connected?

10-What do I desire to create next year?

I hope that you achieve all your #goals in 2023 and feel #successful every step of the way. Thank you for being part of this community. Sending you love and light and wishing you a Happy, Abundant, and Positive New Year!
